Supportive Periodontal and Peri-Implant Care: Risks and Treatment Recommendations
Boston, MA •Wednesday, October 26, 2016 • 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Supportive periodontal and peri-implant
treatment (SPT) is an integral part
of managing patients with periodontal diseases and dental implants. However,
numerous clinical studies indicate that most patients do not adhere to SPT
despite the best efforts of clinicians.
The growing use of implants will continue to
increase the need for early diagnosis and treatment of peri-implant tissue
pathology and maintenance of peri-implant health. Furthermore, even with
adherence to SPT, a significant number of patients could develop peri-implant
diseases (mucositis and peri-implantitis), and require additional periodontal
retreatment.
This full-day course will discuss risk
assessment after completion of active treatment to determine SPT intervals and
strategies to identify non-compliant patients in private practice. Participants
will also discuss the use of decision trees for when periodontal retreatment is
necessary, as well as the procedures indicated by the extent and severity of
recurrence. The etiology, risk indicators and recommended procedures for diagnosis
of peri-implant tissues pathology will be presented. The recommended procedures
for effective maintenance of peri-implant health and treatment of peri-implant
mucositis and peri-implantitis will be described in detail. Protocols for home
care for the patients will be discussed as well.
