Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT): Theory and Practice

This full day lecture and workshop will offer
an introduction to cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Participants will have
the opportunity to learn about the mechanics of CBCT technology, and will
engage in hands-on workshops in order to try specific CBCT systems available at
the course.
The morning lecture session will cover “CBCT
basics,” including:
- A general overview of CBCT technology,
including components of image production, clinical considerations, image
artifacts, strengths and limitations
- Radiation dose considerations and
factors controlling dose
- Brief comparison of conventional
CT and CBCT scanning technology,
including radiation dose comparison
- Systematic interpretation of the entire
CBCT volume will be discussed
This
lecture will be followed by a workshop allowing participants to work with
various CBCT units in order to identify which software packages meet the needs
of each individual’s office.
The afternoon will begin with an interactive session addressing the application of CBCT in
diagnosis of abnormalities of jaws including TMJ, paranasal sinuses, dental
implant diagnosis and treatment planning, endodontics and orthodontics.
Finally, the day will end with a
workshop in which participants will work in small groups to navigate CBCT
volume and systematically interpret incidental
findings, and other abnormalities in the CBCT scan(s) provided.

Cancellation Policy
The Division of Continuing Education reserves the right to end registration when enrollment limit is reached and to cancel, modify, or alter content or faculty for any course if circumstances indicate the need for such a change. If the school finds it necessary to cancel a course, a full refund will be granted. All attempts to contact registrants will be made as soon as possible in the event of a course cancellation. The school will not be held responsible for any losses due to travel arrangements made by the registrant.
In the event of inclement weather (such as a snow emergency) or other extenuating circumstances, the Division of Continuing Education may be forced to cancel a course. If a course has been cancelled, we will contact participants by the phone number and/or email address provided. Refunds
Full tuition refund or credit will be given for cancellations received at least two weeks prior to course date. Refunds or tuition credit will not be issued for participant no-shows.
