Supportive Periodontal and Peri-Implant Care: Risks and Treatment Recommendations

Boston, MA •Friday, November 3, 2017, 9 a.m. - Sunday, November 12, 2017, 12 p.m.

Supportive periodontal and peri-implant treatment (SPT) are integral parts of managing patients with periodontal diseases and dental implants. However, numerous clinical studies indicate that most patients do not adhere to SPT, despite the best efforts of clinicians, and require treatment.

The growing use of implants will continue to increase the need for early diagnosis and treatment of peri-implant tissue pathology and maintenance of peri-implant health. Furthermore, even with adherence to SPT, a significant number of patients can develop peri-implant diseases (mucositis and peri-implantitis), and require additional periodontal retreatment. This comprehensive two-day, hands-on course will include detailed information on the recommended procedures for effective SPT and treatment of peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis.
Location/Venue
Tufts University School of Dental Medicine
One Kneeland Street
Boston, MA 02111
Program Agenda
Day 1's lectures will discuss risk assessment after completion of active treatment to determine SPT intervals and strategies to identify non-compliant patients in private practice. The use of decision trees for when periodontal retreatment is necessary and the procedures indicated by the extent and severity of recurrence will be covered, along with the etiology, risk indicators and recommended procedures for diagnosis of peri-implant tissues pathology. The recommended procedures for effective maintenance of peri-implant health and treatment of peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis will be described in detail. In an interactive discussion, participants will have the opportunity to discuss various clinical cases with peri-implantitis.

Day 2
will consist of a workshop in which participants will get the opportunity to practice non-surgical and surgical procedures for treatment of peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis on models. Instrumentation of implants, application of local antimicrobials and respective and regenerative surgical techniques will also be taught.
