As we gather to commemorate TUSDM's 150th anniversary, we invite friends and alumni of TUSDM to join us as we not only reflect on the past, but also look to the future.

In 1868, Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (then known as Boston Dental College) was founded. In the 150 years since, a great deal has changed, both at TUSDM and in the profession of dentistry itself. In 1868, who could have predicted how the advent of x-rays, porcelain crowns, and dental implants would change what it meant to practice dentistry?
As we gather to commemorate TUSDM's 150th anniversary, we invite friends and alumni of TUSDM to join us as we not only reflect on the past, but also look to the future. This is an opportunity for our community to consider some of the broader questions that will face the school and the profession in the coming years:
- What will the dental profession look like five, ten, or twenty years from now?
- How will dentistry fit into the larger healthcare landscape?
- How can we prepare dental students for success?
- What emerging technologies are likely to have a dramatic effect on dental practice?
In order to spur discussion on these important topics, TUSDM will be hosting a two-day symposium featuring an expert panel of dental and medical experts. We hope you will join us for this groundbreaking event!

With over 25 years of experience in clinical practice, biomedical research and healthcare innovation, Kraft has chaired the Medicine for Singularity University since its inception in 2008, and founded and is Executive Director of Exponential Medicine, a program that explores convergent, rapidly developing technologies and their potential in biomedicine and healthcare.
Following undergraduate degrees from Brown University and medical school at Stanford, Daniel was Board Certified in both Internal Medicine & Pediatrics after completing a Harvard residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital & Boston Children's Hospital, and fellowships in hematology, oncology and bone marrow transplantation at Stanford.He has multiple scientific publications and medical device, immunology and stem cell related patents through faculty positions with Stanford University School of Medicine and as clinical faculty for the pediatric bone marrow transplantation service at University of California San Francisco.ELLEN ZANE, M.A., is a nationally renowned health care leader who served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Tufts Medical Center and Floating Hospital for Children from 2004-2011. She was the first woman to run the hospital in its 221-year history. Ellen holds two faculty appointments at Tufts University School of Medicine including: Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Clinical Care Research and Assistant Professor of Public Health & Community Medicine. Over the course of her tenure, Ellen returned the Medical Center to financial stability. She strengthened its relationship with Tufts University, established its community physician network, which now includes more than 1,800 doctors, and launched its Distributed Academic Medical CenterTM model, a partnership with community affiliates designed to keep more care in the community.
RICHARD W. VALACHOVIC, D.M.D., M.P.H., is President and CEO of ADEA and President of the ADEAGies Foundation. He joined ADEA in 1997 after more than 20 years in the research, practice and teaching of pediatric dentistry and oral medicine/radiology. Certified in pediatric dentistry and dental public health, Dr. Valachovic is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, and a Fellow of both the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American College of Dentists. He previously served on the faculty of the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Valachovic has served as President of the Federation of Associations of Schools of the Health Professions (FASHP) and as Secretary-General of the International Federation of Dental Educators and Associations (IFDEA).
ATHENA PAPAS, D.M.D., Ph.D., Professor, Department of Diagnostic Sciences, Tufts University School of Dental Medicine; Research Consultant, Forsyth Dental Center. Dr. Papas is a Distinguished Professor of Diagnostic Sciences and the Erling Johansen Professor of Dental Research, and the Head of the Division of Oral Medicine at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. 2009 recipient of the International Association of Dental Research PTT.
PAMELA YELICK, Ph.D. Professor, Department of Orthodontics, Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Yelick is the Director of the Division of Craniofacial and Molecular Genetics. The Yelick Lab is working to identify effective methods to bioengineer functional dental tissues and bioengineered whole teeth of specific size and shape. The successful creation of clinically relevant, 3D biomimetic tooth and alveolar bone constructs has the potential to effectively repair a variety of human craniofacial defects.
EVANGELOS PAPATHANSIOU, D.D.S., M.S., Assistant Clinical Professor, Department of Periodontology, Tufts University School of Dental Medicine; Diplomate, American Board of Periodontology. Dr. Papathanasiou's research interest focus on the molecular mechanisms of oral inflammation, which can be harnessed for the development of novel therapeutics to boost the endogenous regenerative capacity of host tissues.

Refunds
Full tuition refund or credit will be given for cancellations received at least two weeks prior to course date. Refunds or tuition credit will not be issued for participant no-shows.
